Biography
Colin Batrouney is a multi-disciplinary artist working in a number of fields. In 1980 he graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Art at Monash University, Chisholm followed by a Bachelor of Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1986. Colin has participated in a number of solo and group photographic exhibitions in Australia. He has been a finalist in several arts prizes in 2008 including the Swan Hill Drawing Prize, Mornington Works on Paper & nominated for the Australian Photographer for the Year award. Colin was also a finalist for the Julie Millowick Acquisitive Photographic Prize, Castlemaine State Festival, 2007 Fisher’s Ghost Contemporary Art Prize, Campbelltown, NSW in 2004, 2005 & 2006; William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, Monash Gallery of Art, Ringwood in 2006 and the Smorgan Steel Contemporary Art Prize, Melbourne in 2003. In 2006 his work was represented in the Kodak Salon Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne. Colin's first solo photographic exhibition, Nuovo was at LAB X in 2006, he followed this with two solo shows at Gallery 101 Collins Street, Spectres in 2007 and Historical Fiction in 2008. Colin Batrouney has also worked within the entertainment industry as an actor and director. His credits include, Angels In America: Millennium Approaches and Peristroika, Melbourne Theatre Company for which he was nominated for a Melbourne Green Room Award for Best Actor; The Intruders, Theatre, Director Nancy Black; Atlanta, Playbox Theatre Company; The Flying Doctors; Night Out (film, Director Lawrence Johnston) and Measure For Measure, Director Associated Artists National Tour. He has worked as Assistant Director / Damaturg for Belvoir Street Theatre, Company B and Nel Armfield for Suddenly Last Summer, 2000 and The Small Poppies, Sydney, Dublin, Melbourne, 2000 In 2004 Colin Batrouney was 2004 the recipient of a Melbourne Green Room Award for Most Innovative Use of Cabaret Form and Most Outstanding Cabaret Show for Comedy Is Not Pretty. His first novel, Omar and Enzo in the Big Talking Book was published in 2007. He is currently completing his second novel, A Thousand Benedictions to be published by Clouds of Magellan.
